Fall has arrived!

Yes, it's true, fall has arrived but it certainly doesn't feel like it here in Northern California!  The forecast calls for temps in the low to mid 90's this week.  Ouch!

That said, the first official day of fall was September 22nd, so we are officially excited by fall colors, specifically the brunette's!  Check out our brunette inspiration....

Inspired by braids...+ a shop special!

When I told my husband recently that I was going to grow "long hippy hair", he just sort of looked at me and didn't comment.  I should expect this from him I suppose.  Especially considering since I've known him my hair has been long, short, layered, blonde, brown, red, highlighted, black, with bangs and without.

I am lucky to have such a wonderful and talented stylist as Ms. Rozlyn!  I received a compliment from a stranger for every single one of those style and color combos.  All of that said I guess this makes me a hair-brave sort of lady....but it's easy to be brave when you can sit in the chair of your stylist and say, "do whatever you want".

But let's get back to the subject at hand, shall we?  With my hair being a very cute little pixie, I told my husband "I'm going to grow long hippy hair".....now, why would I even attempt something as difficult as growing my 2 inch hair to the middle of my back?  Well, because of braids of course!

I mean, have you seen all of the fabulous braids around lately?

You are what you eat.....and so is your hair! {Part 2}

Welcome back to part two!  (Part 1 can be found here)
Let's talk about more healthy foods for healthy hair, and again, we've included recipe ideas to help you get these foods into your body.

6.  Eggs
Did we mention protein last week?  Thought so!  Eggs are a great source of protein and also contain biotin and vitamin B-12 to make your hair say yay.

Check out these yummy egg recipes...

7. Whole Grains
I don't know about you, but finding a reason bread is good for me is a good thing!  It's also filled with zinc, iron and vitamin B.

Here are some tasty ways to eat those whole grains...

Whole Grain Salad with Beets and Goat Cheese

8.  Oysters
This one surprised me.  Maybe this is a reason to make a trip to the ocean too?  Oysters are good for hair because they contain a high amount of a powerful antioxidant - zinc.

So, how do you like your oysters?

Pasta with Oysters, Shallots, Garlic & Tomatoes
(pair this with a whole wheat pasta and get two good hair foods in one dish!)

9. Low-fat Dairy Products
That's right, drink your milk.  Calcium is an important mineral for hair growth.

Don't want to drink plain old milk?
Here are some other ways to get that dairy...

Frozen Blackberry Yogurt
Frozen Blackberry Yogurt
Zucchini, Tomato and "Ricotta" Tartelettes
(these have a whole grain crust and 1% cottage cheese, another two for one!)

10. Carrots
No wonder why bunnies are so soft!  Filled with vitamin A, carrots are good for our vision and a healthy scalp.

There are plenty of other ways to eat carrots other than just in your salad...

(Yet another two in one - carrots & beans!)

That concludes the top ten healthy foods for your hair!  We hope you are inspired to eat, cook and enjoy strong, healthy and beautiful hair as a result.

You are what you eat.....and so is your hair! {Part 1}

Using all the best product is great, but what you put in your body counts just as much as what you put on your hair.

There are 10 foods for healthy hair, today we'll share the top 5, and, to give you some inspiration to get these foods in your body, we've included some recipe ideas too!

1.  Salmon
That's right, all those omega 3's plus protein and iron pack a punch to keep you and your hair healthy.

Here are some salmon recipe ideas...

2.  Dark Green Vegetables
These veggies are a great source of vitamin's A & C, what your body uses to produce sebum, the hairs natural conditioner.

Here are some tasty ways to eat those green veggies!

3.  Beans
That's right, those beans are good for you and your hair.  Protein, iron, zinc and biotin are all good for healthy and strong hair and the beans have them.

Check out these recipes to help you eat your beans!
Bean Salad....in a hurry

Kidney Beans Stewed in Red Wine with Tomatoes & Herbs

4.  Nuts
Aww nuts!  Just kidding, but those nuts are good for your tresses too.  Brazil nuts are filled with selenium, which is good for a healthy scalp.

Check out these tasty ways to get nuts into your diet...
Coffee and Vanilla
Maple Syrup Granola with Pecans, Cashews & Brazils

Caramelized Rosemary Walnuts
5. Poultry
Again, protein, protein, protein!  And it is easy for your body to reap those protein benefits from poultry.
